About Ed Martin

  • Ed Martin has a deep background in political analysis and communication and has served in a variety of capacities, primarily in New York State.  A former communications consultant to the Republican State Committee, Martin was a key player in the development and implementation of the successful communications strategy that resulted in the defeat of popular NY Governor Mario Cuomo in 1994.  Martin was Communications Director and strategist for the Republican Majority in the New York State Senate.   During his tenure there he achieved a 100% re-election rate for GOP incumbants and successed in defeating Democrats.  His specialty was helping relative unknown candidates defeat entrenched incumbants.
  • In 1980, Martin helped elect Alfonse D’Amato to the US Senate, assisting in D’Amato’s successful long shot primary effort to defeat the entrenched Rockefeller political machine.  Martin then served as Washington Press Secretary to D’Amato.
  • In 1987, Martin joined the Reagan Administration as Director of External and Congressional Affairs for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • In 1992, Martin entered private consulting practice and represented clients that included insurance, health care, gaming, and communications interests, both nationally and within New York State.
  • In 1997, Martin was asked by then Governor George Pataki to join his administration as the second highest ranking economic development official in the Empire State.   Martin was responsible for the state’s marketing programs, Science and Technology Foundation as well as the reknowned “I Love NY” tourism campaign.
  • Martin subsequently eased out of active political involvement and hosted a popular radio talk show for Clear Channel’s WGY in Albany, NY.   He is an ocassional fill-in radio host/commentator in various markets.
  • Martin’s insight is compelling, informative, and always entertaining.   With a quick Irish wit he can cut to the chase of almost any subject.   His favorite phrase is:  “I know what I know and I know what I don’t know.”    He says he never stops learning and is addicted to good conversation.
